Plot summary
Gail Daughtry is a hairdresser in a small Kansas town, two weeks away from marrying Tom, when the couple talk about the celebrity sex pass each of them is allowed. Tom first names Tilda Swinton, and Gail picks Jon Hamm. After Tom meets Jennifer Aniston at a book signing, he changes his choice, and Gail finds the two of them together. She leaves Kansas with her friend Otto, heading to a hairdressing convention in Los Angeles. There Gail picks up the wrong briefcase, one that belongs to Ludovica, who is plotting to wreck the world's financial system and sends her henchmen Sergio and Niccolo after it.

- David Wain and Ken Marino wrote Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass around the bones of The Wizard of Oz: Zoey Deutch's Gail is a near-reverse of Dorothy Gale who travels from Kansas to Los Angeles, and the supporting Hollywood misfits, including Ben Wang's talent agent and Marino's own paparazzo Vincent, were each built around the Scarecrow, Tin Man or Cowardly Lion.
- Jon Hamm and his Mad Men co-star John Slattery play satirical versions of themselves in Gail Daughtry but were not consulted before the first draft was written; Wain and Marino counted on their participation because of prior friendships, and Wain had lived with Hamm briefly before Mad Men premiered.
