Plot summary

Music class brings a change Fred Figglehorn does not want: Mrs. Felson is gone and Mr. Devlin has taken her place. On the walk home, Fred notices a girl named Talia trailing him, though she only shares his route to school. Watching Devlin's house that night, Fred sees him bury something in the yard. Kevin's mother throws a party for the new neighbor, where Fred's mother falls for Devlin and Fred learns Talia is Kevin's sister. Certain now that Devlin is a vampire, Fred brings Bertha along to spy on a dinner date and notes that Devlin refuses garlic on his fries. A blood drive at school and Bertha's private lessons with Devlin deepen his worry, so Fred collects weapons for the school piano recital.
