Plot summary
After the Zombie Wars, radiation from space still lingers, so anyone who dies rises again unless the body is cremated or the head removed and buried apart. The Zomcon corporation fences off communities and issues collars whose remote controls hold a zombie's hunger in check, letting the undead work as servants. In the town of Willard, Bill Robinson will not keep one: when he was young, his father turned and Bill had to shoot him, and he now attends funerals to see the dead disposed of. His wife Helen goes ahead and buys a domestic zombie. Their son Timmy has no friends and is often bullied, and he is wary of the creature at first, then names him Fido and treats him as a pet.
