Plot summary
Charlie Mackenzie is in line for an executive post at the company Walcott has just taken over, and Walcott wants his staff to look like a family. A wedding ring she tries on will not come off her finger, and she lets him believe she is married rather than correct him. When Walcott invites himself to dinner, Charlie borrows a house and a young daughter from a friend and brings in Buck, an actor, to act as her husband Frank for one night. The dinner is only the start: Walcott decides to stay in the neighboring house while his own Malibu home is remodeled, so Charlie and Buck have to keep up the family she invented.
