Plot summary
Kelly Sherwood, a teller at a San Francisco bank, arrives home one evening to find a stranger waiting who already knows her habits and those of her teenage sister, Toby. He orders her to take $100,000 from her bank and threatens to kill her or Toby if she refuses or calls the police, promising to pass along the details in later contacts. She never sees his face, but she remembers his labored, asthmatic breathing. Kelly reaches the FBI's San Francisco office, where agent John Ripley takes charge. Because the caller seems to track everything she does, Ripley and his agents must watch over the sisters while they try to learn who the man is.

- For the climax shot at Candlestick Park, which the Hollywood company knew was probably the windiest stadium in the country, the crew shipped in its own wind machines from the studios, plus fog machines in case Twin Peaks, famous for its fog, was clear on the nights planned for shooting.
