Plot summary
Charlotte Brontë comes home from school for a visit and finds her younger sister Emily inventing fictional worlds; she tries to talk her out of the pastime as childish. A new curate, William Weightman, arrives, and though her sisters and other young women admire him, Emily keeps her distance. In a game the family plays, each person dons a mask and impersonates a character while the others guess who it is; Emily claims the ghost of their dead mother has entered her, and a gust of wind throws the windows open. She buries the mask afterward. Emily leaves for school with Charlotte to train as a teacher and their brother Branwell enters the Royal Academy of Arts, but both return home soon after.
