Plot summary
Eddie has spent his working life keeping the rides at the Ruby Pier amusement park running, and he is a veteran of World War II. On his 83rd birthday, a wire on one of the rides ruptures and the ride falls toward a five-year-old girl sitting beneath it. Eddie dies trying to reach her. He wakes in heaven, where the Blue Man tells him what comes next: a journey through the heavens of five people tied to his life on earth. Each of them will show him what his years amounted to, and only after those meetings can he move to the next level.
