Plot summary
Irene is an overweight and unpopular student at her high school, and she wants to be a cheerleader. When the school suspends her, she must put in two weeks of service at a retirement home. There she follows her cheerleading passion by secretly signing up the home's older residents for an audition on a dance-themed reality show. Her goal is to show that physical perfection is not needed to be awesome.

- Pat Mills won the Toronto International Film Festival's Pitch This! competition for emerging directors in 2008 with the original pitch for Don't Talk to Irene, but the film only entered production in 2016, after he made his feature debut with Guidance.
- The screenplay for Don't Talk to Irene won Best Comedy Screenplay at the 2013 Austin Film Festival, three years before the film entered production, and the finished film went on to win both the Comedy Vanguard Award and the Audience Award at the same festival.
