Plot summary
Mary Morrison writes thriller novels and lives with her husband Tom and their two young children. Her publisher asks for another book and offers a two million dollar advance, which she first turns down. Tom then tells her that a risky investment has cost them half of their reserves, and she changes her mind. Her friend Elaine proposes that she bring in a nanny so she can work, and after several interviews Mary chooses Grace. The new book will not come, and Mary leans on her growing friendship with Grace for ideas. The manuscript and her own life begin to blur together as she works.
