Plot summary
In a wasteland where cyborgs are stripped for parts, Cash, a female cyborg, has been living safely in the free zone. Biomechanical problems take her to Doc Edford, a doctor in Silica, who tells her that she is pregnant, the first cyborg known to carry a child. To learn what her condition means, Cash goes in search of Cytown, the fabled city that is the last haven for her kind, and of Evans, a creator of cyborgs. Anton Lewellyn, who stays alive by harvesting cyborg parts, follows her with his assistant Jocko, and he wants Cash and her child. Lewellyn has long wanted to find Cytown for himself.
