Plot summary
Three years after losing to Pretty Ricky Conlan, Adonis Creed has won six straight bouts, and a win over Danny 'Stuntman' Wheeler makes him WBC world heavyweight champion. He proposes to Bianca. In Ukraine, Ivan Drago, who killed Apollo Creed in a 1985 bout, trains his son Viktor to restore the respect he lost, with promoter Buddy Marcelle arranging a match between Viktor and Adonis. Ivan visits Rocky's restaurant to describe everything their fight cost him: his standing in Russia and his wife, who left him and Viktor. Rocky, afraid Adonis will meet Apollo's fate, refuses to train him. Adonis and Bianca settle in Los Angeles near Mary Anne Creed, and Adonis turns to Tony 'Little Duke' Evers to prepare.

- Creed II was Sylvester Stallone's final appearance as Rocky Balboa, a retirement he announced on Instagram. It was also the only Rocky film he co-wrote with other writers, having been sole writer of the first six, and the last Rocky film he wrote.
- Creed II became the first Rocky film ever to get a theatrical release in China, with a January 4, 2019 date announced on December 21, 2018.
- Vince DiCola, who composed the score for Rocky IV, was rumored to return to score Creed II but did not, saying on Facebook that he would have loved to return and that is just how Hollywood works.
- Creed II's opening weekend of $35.3 million was the best Thanksgiving opening for a live-action film, beating Enchanted ($49.1 million) and Four Christmases ($46.1 million).
