Plot summary
Kasukabe's new 20th-century expo draws the grown-ups in, and they wander displays of their own childhoods while their children wait, bored. Ken and Chaco, who run the place, talk of clearing away what they call the smell of the 21st century. Overnight, Shinnosuke's parents, Hiroshi and Misae, turn crude and irresponsible, and by morning the town's adults are all acting like kids. Trucks roll in and carry every grown-up away to a world kept in the 20th century. Shinnosuke, his sister Himawari, his friends Kazama, Nene, Masao and Bo, and the dog Shiro gather at the Nohara house, where the television and radio are sliding backward and the parents are gone.
