Plot summary

Chev Chelios lands in an intersection after falling from a helicopter, and gangsters scoop him off the street. Three months later he wakes in a makeshift hospital, where doctors are lifting out his heart and Johnny Vang watches; an artificial one goes into his chest, powered by an external battery pack. Chev escapes and calls Doc Miles, a mafia surgeon, who warns that once the pack is spent the internal battery gives him sixty minutes. He crashes his car and destroys the pack, then has a driver charge him with jumper cables. Ria, a prostitute, points him toward the strip club where Vang hides, and there he finds his girlfriend Eve dancing. Mexican mobsters led by Chico arrive, and Chev learns that a man called El HurĂ³n wants him dead.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Crank: High Voltage (2009)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor turned Lionsgate down when asked to direct a sequel, calling the idea ridiculous and lame because they had killed Chev Chelios at the end of Crank. They took the job only after falling for the script they had written themselves and refusing to let another director touch it.
  • Brian Taylor could finally write Chelios in Jason Statham's own British idiom. On the first Crank he had written the part for an American actor before Statham was cast, so the dialogue never matched the way its star actually spoke.
  • Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor and cinematographer Brandon Trost operated the cameras themselves, shooting on consumer camcorders such as Canon's VIXIA HF-10 and XH-A1. The rigs were light enough that Neveldine filmed chase scenes while wearing Rollerblades.
  • For a bullet-time effect in the style of The Matrix the crew bent a piece of speed rail through 180 degrees and mounted eight cameras on it, while Fig Rigs steadied the deliberately handheld look. Close to 300 hours of footage was shot in all.
