Plot summary

Carl, a newspaper photographer in New York, is unhappy that he is assigned food shoots rather than news. His wife Joline, who runs a nightclub, is content and believes in their marriage. After about a year and a half together he moves out of their loft, leaving a note about needing space and a bouquet of daisies. Joline holds the surprise birthday party she had planned for him anyway, then slips out through the bathroom window and gives money to a carjacker in the alley. A postcard from Carl, its postmark smudged, sends her to El Paso, where she stakes out his mobile home and meets his sculptor neighbor Neil.
