Art Alexakis
Biography
Art Alexakis is an American musician who sings and plays guitar for the rock band Everclear, which he formed in Portland after advertising for a bass player and drummer. Born in Los Angeles, he played in earlier groups including the cowpunk band the Easy Hoes and Colorfinger before Everclear scored platinum albums with Sparkle & Fade, So Much for the Afterglow and Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile. He also worked in artists and repertoire for Capitol Records, produced Frogpond's Count to Ten in 1996, and ran his own label, Popularity Recordings. From 2017 to 2019 he hosted a weekly show on SiriusXM's Lithium. He appeared in films such as Committed (2000), Rid of Me (2011), Rogue River (2012) and Wild (2014), and on television in The Chris Isaak Show.

Alexakis served for several years as an A&R representative for Capitol Records while also finding success as a songwriter and musical act.
Behind the camera
Alexakis started his own label, Popularity Recordings, in the early 2000s, running it as a subsidiary of Artemis Records. The first release he produced for it was Flipp's 2002 album Volume.
A change of course
From March 2017 through February 2019, Alexakis was the host of a weekly radio show on Lithium, SiriusXM's channel 34 for 1990s alternative and grunge music.
Behind the camera
Alexakis's next project, Colorfinger, started as a solo album but became a group. The band's songs, including "Why I Don't Believe in God" and "Heartspark Dollarsign," were later turned into Everclear songs.
