Plot summary
On the thirtieth anniversary of Akeem's wedding to Lisa McDowell, the dying King Jaffe Joffer calls his son to him. The king and the witch doctor Baba tell Akeem that he fathered a son in Queens on his first visit there, and that Zamunda's tradition allows only a male heir to inherit the throne. The children Akeem has with Lisa are daughters. General Izzi, who rules the militaristic neighbor Nexdoria, keeps pressing for a marriage between Akeem's eldest daughter, Meeka, and Izzi's son Idi. After Jaffe's funeral, Akeem takes the throne and returns to Queens with Semmi. The barbershop's Mr. Clarence recognizes Baba's sketch as Lavelle Junson, who scalps tickets outside Madison Square Garden. Akeem brings Lavelle and his mother Mary back to Zamunda.
