Plot summary

In 1865, Will Denton, an American miner, joins the crew of a lonely lighthouse on a rocky island near Tierra del Fuego, off the southern end of South America. He wants to be alone after a failed romance and after a gunfight in which he killed his former lover's husband. An old Argentine sailor, Captain Moriz, runs the light, with Felipe as his young assistant. Pirates come ashore, kill the two men and put out the light.
