Plot summary
Pat Loud lives in Santa Barbara, California with her husband Bill and their five children. Craig Gilbert comes to her with a proposal: a documentary series that would record the family's daily life. Pat weighs it and accepts. Her son Lance is moving to New York City, and Bill is often away on business, so Pat cares for the children largely on her own. A crew, among them Alan and Susan Raymond, moves into the house and begins to film. Gilbert pushes them to capture personal moments, and the crew objects to his methods. The production puts pressure on the household, and Pat and Bill's marriage grows strained.
