Biography

Berry Kroeger was an American actor of film, television and stage who was born in San Antonio, Texas. He began on radio, announcing for Suspense, playing the Falcon for a time, portraying Dr. Reed Bannister on Big Sister, narrating Salute to Youth and appearing as Sam Williams on Young Doctor Malone. His Broadway debut came in December 1943, as Miley in Nunnally Johnson's The World's Full of Girls, followed by The Tempest, Julius Caesar, Reclining Figure and the Lost Horizon musical Shangri-La, in which he played the High Lama. William Wellman noticed him on Broadway and launched his screen career with The Iron Curtain (1948). Villainous parts followed in Act of Violence (1948), Cry of the City (1948) and Gun Crazy (1950), then schlock fare including Chamber of Horrors (1966) and The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant (1971). He was a village elder in Young Frankenstein (1974), and his last major film role was Demon Seed (1977), amid many television guest spots.
