Plot summary
Bertram Oliphant West's good name is in ruins thanks to Captain Bagshaw, the rival who courts Lady Jane Ponsonby, so West, who answers to Bo, leaves England for the French Foreign Legion, with his manservant Simpson following. Taken at Sidi Bel Abbès for enemy fighters, the two enlist, and Sergeant Nocker shows them how to get on in Legion life, though his so-called patrols lead him to the cafe kept by Zig-Zig. The desert outpost they reach is staffed by eccentrics, and trouble is building with the local tribes. Lady Jane, satisfied that Bo is innocent, sets out across the Sahara to bring him home, and her innocence while traveling alone draws men ready to exploit it.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Carry on in the Legion (1967)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Phil Silvers was paid £30,000, a great deal more than any other cast member, which provoked animosity among the regular Carry On team, and he could not or would not learn his lines, so boards were placed behind the camera for him to read during shooting.
- Location work in early 1967 put the Sahara-set scenes at Camber Sands near Rye in East Sussex, England, and shooting had to be halted several times because there was snow on the sands.
- The central role of the fast-talking Foreign Legion Sergeant had originally been earmarked for Sid James, but his commitment to the ITV sitcom George and the Dragon forced a recast; writer Talbot Rothwell said the part "simply yells for Phil Silvers".
- The character named "Corktip" is a parody of "Cigarette" in the 1936 Foreign Legion film Under Two Flags, and her name refers to cigarettes such as the Craven A brand, which had a cork tip.
