Plot summary
Three chapters from an open diary. The Roman summer empties the city and Nanni Moretti rides his Vespa through the streets, airing his thoughts on Italian politics and cinema and on how his neighborhoods are changing. He leaves Rome for the Aeolian Islands, where his friend Gerardo, a scholar who moved there eleven years earlier to study James Joyce's Ulysses away from television, is his host. Tourists crowd the islands. Persistent itching and insomnia then send him from one doctor and specialist to the next.
