Plot summary
Francesca lives in Bari with her daughter Giulia. When her husband Maurizio dies, she learns of his debts and his betrayals, and the villa, the furniture, the furs, the jewelry and the yacht all go to settle them. That money covers a year of rent and Giulia's school fees, but she finds no work. Cesare, a lawyer and a friend, proposes a raffle: twenty men of local society each pay a hundred million lire, and the winner lives with Francesca for four years.
