Plot summary
Francis leads a band of friars, and their life together comes in separate episodes. Giovanni the Simpleton asks to join them and copies the words and gestures of Francis. Brother Ginepro comes back to St. Mary of the Angels without his habit, having given it to a beggar, and Francis corrects his generosity. Saint Clare visits St. Mary of the Angels and shares a meal with Francis.

- While The Flowers of St. Francis was shooting, Roberto Rossellini's and Ingrid Bergman's son Renato was born, on February 2, 1950, before the director's divorce was official; the film's extras brought ricotta to the newborn baby.
- When the film debuted in America on October 6, 1952, the chapter markers that introduce each of its episodes were removed, because the source novel was much less known there.
