Plot summary
Shelley Allen runs a hairdressing shop in Keighley with Sandra, her partner. Phil, the husband she left, and their son Brian cut hair at a barber shop in the same town. When the British hairdressing championship is awarded to Keighley, Shelley asks the two of them to team up with her and Sandra and enter. Phil says no. Ten years back he and Shelley had competed as a pair, and she went off with Sandra, the team's model, the night before a third round; he has not forgiven them. Raymond Robertson, the defending champion, arrives in town to make sure Phil is staying out, and belittles the barbering he now does instead of competitive styling. Brian, drawn to Raymond's daughter Christina, agrees to join his mother's side.
