Warren Clarke

Biography

Warren Clarke was an English actor of film, television and stage. He was born in Oldham, Lancashire. After leaving school at 15, he worked as a copy boy at the Manchester Evening News, then took up amateur dramatics and acted at Huddersfield Rep. His first television role came in Coronation Street. A major early film part was Dim in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971). He acted with Malcolm McDowell in that film and later in O Lucky Man! (1973). In Clint Eastwood's Firefox (1982) he was a Russian dissident. On television he starred as Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel in Dalziel and Pascoe across eleven series from 1996. He also appeared in The Manageress and Sleepers. Later work included the Red Riding trilogy (2009). His radio credits included Love on the Dole and Lord Peter Wimsey. He died in 2014.
