Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Beware of the Car! (1966)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Every car stolen by Detochkin in Beware of the Car is a GAZ-21 Volga, the most prestigious Soviet car of the time and the standard personal car of the Soviet elite; director Ryazanov found this satirical element very hard to get approved.
  • A petrol station scene in Beware of the Car features American cars, a 1955 Buick and a 1955 Oldsmobile, an extremely rare sighting there because the United States had sanctions on the USSR and did not sell these cars within the Eastern Bloc.
  • The waltz performed in Beware of the Car is a melody composed by Andrey Petrov; Sergey Nikitin's song Glass Gentleman, with lyrics by Yevgeny Yevtushenko, used a waltz from the film.
  • Beware of the Car is credited with launching Soviet political satire as a film genre, typified by Ryazanov's work, and was recognized as a satire of film noir, highly unusual in Brezhnev-era society.
