Plot summary
A gang of three steals Alexander the Great's golden helmet from an archaeological dig, and the police identify them: Aleksandr Belyi, known as Docent, and his two henchmen. In Moscow, Professor Maltsev, who led the expedition, spots a man with a striking resemblance to Docent and follows him. The man is Evgeniy Ivanovich Troshkin, the amiable principal of Kindergarten No. 83. The misunderstanding is cleared up, but the arrested thieves no longer have the helmet, so officers ask Troshkin to put the likeness to work. Disguised with a toupee and fake tattoos, he is sent to a prison in Central Asia where two of Docent's accomplices are serving time, to pass himself off as their boss.
