Georgi Zhzhyonov
Biography
Georgi Zhzhyonov, born in St. Petersburg in 1915, was a Russian actor whose screen career began after a cinematographer spotted him performing acrobatics at the Leningrad Circus and gave him the lead in Oshibka Geroya (1932). He was a student of Sergey Gerasimov at Leningrad's Theater and Film Institute, appeared in Chapayev (1934) and Nasledny prints respubliki (1934), and graduated in 1935. Between 1955 and 1968 his stage work in Leningrad included the Theatre of Lensoveta, and the role that made his name came in Beware of the Car! (1966). His most famous part was a Western spy in Venyamin Dorman's trilogy, and he also led Aleksandr Mitta's Ekipazh (1980). He took the role of Senator Stark in the television film Vsya korolevskaya rat (1972), praised by its author Robert Penn Warren. His awards included the State Prize of the USSR, People's Artist of the USSR and a career Nika Award.
