Plot summary
At the factory, Anatoly Grachkin and Viktor Gromoboev are two foolish, frivolous young men who make trouble for the whole work team, and the decision to dismiss them has already been made. Nadya Berestova, a small, funny woman known as a popular figure at the plant, is asked to take them under her wing. Because she is regarded as respectable and reliable, the Komsomol members hand her the assignment of re-educating the boys. She takes it with reluctance and apprehension. She draws up for the two mischief-makers what they should do each day and which books they should read, gives them lectures on marine biology, and talks about Goncharov's novel Oblomov.
