Andrey Mironov
Biography
Andrei Mironov was a Soviet comic actor, born in Moscow on March 8, 1941, into a family of actors. He trained at the Moscow Shchukin School from 1958 to 1962, and from 1962 until his death in 1987 belonged to the company of the Moscow Theatre of Satire. He made his film debut in 1961, while still a student, in A esli eto lyubov?, and became famous through roles in My Younger Brother (1962) and Tri plyus dva (1963). He was best known as Kozodoev, a tourist turned jewel smuggler, in Leonid Gayday's comedy The Diamond Arm (1969), which a 1995 national poll named the best Russian-Soviet film. He also appeared in Beware of the Car! (1966) and as Ostap Bender in Twelve Chairs (1977), and worked with director Mark Zakharov on An Ordinary Miracle. His honors included the title People's Artist of Russia and awards at Soviet film festivals.
