Plot summary
Pasha Stroganova is a textile worker in the small town of Rechensk. She works at the factory and goes to dances, and in an amateur theater group she plays Baba Yaga. At a dance she meets Arkady and falls in love with him. A director from the city watches one of her performances and offers her the lead in a major film about Joan of Arc, the part she has dreamed of. The crew cannot understand what the director sees in an unassuming provincial actress.
