Plot summary
Becks is a backup musician in New York City for her girlfriend Lucy, a singer. When Lucy is cast on an aspiring singer reality TV show and moves to Los Angeles, Becks clears out their apartment and drives west to meet her. The relationship ends, and Becks goes home to St. Louis, Missouri, to live with her mother, Ann, who is devoutly Catholic and says she is uncomfortable with her daughter's sexuality. Becks looks up Dave, a former high school boyfriend who runs a bar in town, and begins playing regular shows there. Elyse, the bored wife of a man Becks knew in high school, comes to the bar and pays Becks for guitar lessons; the lessons turn into a secret romance.
