Plot summary
Johnny Faust sings for The Relentless, an aspiring rock band with members from England and the United States. He shares a home in Columbus, Ohio, with his girlfriend Gretchen and his mother. The group moves to Los Angeles to become famous and holds auditions for a bassist, choosing Lily. Outside a liquor store, some of them meet a homeless man who urges them to trust feeling over perception, and then a man who suggests he is the Devil, offering stardom in return for a human sacrifice. Lily says that Damien, who once played in a band with her, raped her. Johnny's mother has breast cancer, and she has no money to pay for care.
