Plot summary
Auden, a recent high school graduate raised by academics, arrives in Colby to spend a carefree summer with her father Robert before college. Her mother, Victoria, objects to the visit. Robert is an absentee dad who shuts himself in his office, and he has a baby daughter, Thisbe, with his new wife, Heidi. Heidi gives Auden work at her shop looking after receipts, where she meets Leah, Esther and Maggie; Maggie is cold to her at first. Unable to sleep, Auden wanders the streets at night and meets Eli, another insomniac. He is a BMX biker and takes her on nightly outings, and he sets her a quest to try everything she never got to do as a child, starting with a hidden pie shop and a game of Connect Four.
