Plot summary
Mike Kersjes runs a special education class at Forest Hills Northern High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and coaches the football team there. He respects his students and thinks they can achieve great things. When he hears of Space Camp, a competitive program the U.S. Space and Rocket Center runs for gifted science and math students, he decides his class should take part. One of his students, Ben, dreams of becoming an astronaut. School administrators object to the expense, and camp officials have no experience with special education students. His co-teacher, Robynn McKinney, backs his effort. Scott, who has dyslexia and anger management problems, hates being in special education, and Matt is strong in mathematics and science.
