Plot summary
Jake Abraham works his family's produce farm in North Carolina and wants out of agri-business. He asks his father for an early inheritance, and his father agrees, so Jake says goodbye to his brother Seth, the secretary Mrs. Grey and the ranch hand Jose and leaves for the city, planning stock market moves. He skips the modest apartment and checks into a swanky hotel, buys an Italian sports car and later a condominium, and spends his evenings in bars and nightclubs, wining and dining the women he meets there. Laura, one of his girlfriends, urges him to put money into a speculative movie project and introduces her boyfriend Frank, who is interested in Jake's market acumen. Summer, the barista at his morning coffee house, is attracted to him, though his evenings with Laura keep the two of them apart.
