Calvin Lockhart
Biography
Calvin Lockhart was a Bahamian actor who moved from Nassau to New York as a young man and broke into the business on the stage, making his Broadway debut in 1960 in The Cool World. He then formed his own theater company in Italy, where he acted and directed, before settling in England and taking roles on British television and in films such as A Dandy in Aspic (1968). His first notable screen part came in Joanna (1968), and his first lead in Halls of Anger (1970). He was best known as Reverend Deke O'Malley in Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970) and Biggie Smalls in Let's Do It Again (1975), and horror fans knew him from The Beast Must Die (1974). He spent 1974 as an actor-in-residence with the Royal Shakespeare Company, played King Willie in Predator 2 (1990), and appeared in David Lynch's Wild at Heart (1990). Lockhart died in 2007.
