Plot summary
Lockhart is an executive at a financial services firm in New York City. The board of directors sends him to retrieve CEO Roland Pembroke, who decides to stay at a wellness center in the Swiss Alps. At the center, the staff and Dr. Heinreich Volmer resist his attempts to speak with Pembroke. Lockhart leaves, but a car crash puts him back at the center, where he wakes with a plaster cast on his leg. He and the driver suffer only minor injuries. He meets Hannah, a young girl who doses herself from small blue bottles.

- Dane DeHaan's only injury filming A Cure for Wellness came in the car crash scene, where he was strapped into a harness inside a device a USA Today writer compared to a rotisserie and tossed around; his arm was dislocated from and then relocated into its socket.
- For the scene where Dr. Brennan drills through Lockhart's healthy tooth without anesthesia, director Gore Verbinski and the crew used a rubber drill. Dane DeHaan was genuinely nervous, and his real reaction was used in the film, shot with a dental gag and strapped to the chair.
- The water tank scenes took two weeks to shoot, with Dane DeHaan and director Gore Verbinski communicating through an intercom. DeHaan wore a buoyancy and body-positioning waist harness connected with wires and an oxygen tank.
- A Cure for Wellness was pulled from 2,704 theaters to 88 in its third week, a 97.8% drop after a $1.4 million second weekend. That was the largest such drop by percentage ever, and at the time the second largest third-week theater drop by screens in history.
- Set designer Eve Stewart picked Hohenzollern Castle, in the German municipality of Bisingen, from a group of German castles because it looked like "a sort of sanctuary from modern life" rather than frightening. The castle was closed to the public for filming from July 13 to 24, 2015.
- Two days before the film's U.S. premiere, The New York Times reported that 20th Century Fox had created a group of fake news sites as part of a viral marketing campaign for A Cure for Wellness.
