Plot summary
Sara's mother is flying a small aircraft carrying a family of three; the son panics and hyperventilates, and the parents spot an out-of-control plane bearing down on them. Years later, Sara has just earned her pilot's license and plans to fly to a concert with her boyfriend Bruce Parker, her cousin Cory, her friend Mel and Mel's boyfriend Sal. Bruce is uneasy in the air and the others mock him, so Sara lets him take the controls. Turbulence hits and he loses control, putting the plane into a steep climb. Sara takes over, but the elevator is jammed by a loose bolt, so the aircraft can climb and nothing else. They enter a storm and the radio goes silent, with under an hour of fuel left.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- To raise money the filmmakers spent a day at a small airfield outside Vancouver shooting "a fake trailer for no money, you know, like 'Machete'", which immediately got interest; further financing from Darclight and Telefilm then took the operating budget over $3.5 million.
- The small light twin Piper Chieftain that was the main setting of the film was originally a salvaged airframe, fitted with panels and sections that could be easily removed for shooting into the cabin.
