Plot summary
Carol Cartman hosts a talk show and treats her employees coldly, a manner she learned from her Aunt Marla. She is cynical and selfish, and she despises Christmas. On Christmas Eve, hours before her show is due to air a holiday special, Marla appears to her as a spirit bound in golden chains that her own misdeeds forged. Marla warns her niece about the mistakes of her own life and the similar fate that waits for Carol if she does not change, and tells her that three spirits will come to show her where she went wrong and to try to steer her back.
