Biography

Dinah Manoff is an actress and director who has worked in theater, film, and television. Born in New York City, she trained at the Actors Studio and began with a voice role in the animated film Everybody Rides the Carousel, then moved into television with the PBS production The Stronger. In 1978 she joined the sitcom Soap as Elaine Lefkowitz and played Marty Maraschino in Grease (1978), one of the Pink Ladies. Her Broadway debut came as Libby Tucker in Neil Simon's I Ought to Be in Pictures, which won her a Tony Award, and she reprised the part in the 1982 film version. She appeared as Karen in Ordinary People (1980) and as Maggie Peterson in Child's Play (1988). Her best-known television role was Carol Weston on the sitcom Empty Nest, a seven-year part she also directed; she later directed an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
