Plot summary
Kelly Ferguson is a high school freshman in Rhode Island. As a small child she was attacked by a monster. She expects to attend a senior's Halloween party. Her mother has arranged for her to babysit Jacob, the son of her boss Ms. Zellman, and leaves pages of instructions. Jacob describes the monsters that trouble him and shows Kelly his drawings of them. She looks beneath the bed and inside the closet. Three monsters carry the boy off. Kelly meets Liz Lerue, a member of a secret society of babysitters that protects children.
