Plot summary
Magnet S. Johnson, an American billionaire who made his fortune from neodymium magnets, fakes his own death after witnessing a brutal regime in Turgistan. He assembles an anonymous squad to go after criminals and terrorists that the world cannot or will not pursue. Five others leave their pasts behind for numbered names: a spy becomes Two, a hitman Three, a parkour runner and thief Four, a doctor Five, and a driver Six. They call themselves ghosts. One's plan is to stage a coup against Turgistan's dictator, Rovach Alimov. Their first mission takes them to Florence to question the lawyer of the country's four highest-ranking generals, with the Mafia and the Italian police in pursuit as they drive across the city.

- Michael Bay was surprised that Florence let him film a car chase through its historic area, with cars flying past an 800-year-old obelisk. He said he did not know why it was allowed, but that nothing was hurt.
- Michael Bay spotted the British parkour team Storror on YouTube and brought them in to choreograph and perform the film's parkour, which includes stunts between skyscrapers and cranes and scenes on the Florence Cathedral.
- Production designer Jeffrey Beecroft said the UAE military gave the production soldiers as extras and aircraft, including six Apache helicopters and ten Black Hawks, more military hardware, he said, than he had had on any Michael Bay film.
- The production used 24 locations in the United Arab Emirates, some of which stood in for Las Vegas, Afghanistan, California, Hong Kong and the film's fictional nation of Turgistan.
