Plot summary

Drew Reynolds, a black hat hacker, works alone, breaking into the systems of groups he considers threats to America. The CIA tracks him down and captures him, and agents Holden, a former mentor, and Connelly offer him a choice: thirty years to life in prison, or help catch a hacker who shut down Chicago's power grid with a program called Pantheon. Whoever holds Pantheon's encryption key, they say, gains access to the entire internet. Drew accepts the job and immunity, on the condition that he picks his own team. Over their objections he chooses three agents everyone has written off: Fisher, a violent former agent stuck on basement duty; Gloria, an agent who seduces her marks but is not taken seriously by her colleagues; and Dmitri, a cowardly ex-KGB agent with a record of deserting his comrades.
