Plot summary
A gold strike on Sioux land in the Dakotas in 1877 sets off a rush for claims, and word of a proclamation opening the territory to settlement sends hopefuls toward Custer, among them the singing cowboy Dan O'Malley and the Carletons. The outlaws known as 'Bull' Stanley, 'Spade' Allen and Mike Costigan are riding out to steal horses when they come upon Lee Carleton, whose father is killed by another band of outlaws. The three men give up the horses and take her under their protection instead. In Custer, vice and injustice are the order of the day under Sheriff Layne Hunter.
