Plot summary
In 2030, a crewed shuttle on a mission to Mars disappears without explanation. Six years on, United Space Planetary Corporation controller Mackenzie Wilson lands a rover on Mars while answering to ARTI, an artificial intelligence system. Wilson's sister and supervisor, Lena, believes the AI will manage what human controllers could not, and Wilson distrusts it. A nearly disastrous landing is saved by her quick thinking, and the rover, which she names Little Red, finds a cube on the surface.
