Plot summary
In the 19th century, Professor Aronnax studies ocean life, and the government asks him to account for the ships that are being lost at sea. He takes passage on the USS Abraham Lincoln, the vessel sent to look into the sinkings, and the harpooner Ned Land sails with the party. Sophie, the professor's daughter, will not stay behind; she conceals her identity and dresses as a boy so that she can go with her father. In the course of the cruise the Abraham Lincoln meets the craft it has been pursuing, and the mysterious Captain Nemo intercepts the ship from his submarine.
