Plot summary
Ann is seventeen and stands to inherit the Manhattan Corporation, an arms manufacturer. Her eighteenth birthday is coming, and the company she is set to inherit troubles her, so she runs away into the Bronx. The authorities have declared the borough No Man's Land and given up trying to restore law and order there, and the Riders rule the area. A roller-skating gang called the Zombies attacks Ann, and members of the Riders save her. Their leader, Trash, takes her under his protection, and the two fall in love. The Tigers kill a Rider named Chris, and their leader, the Ogre, tells Trash that Chris carried a covert listening device. The Manhattan Corporation hires Hammer, a mercenary, to retrieve Ann.
