Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- You Instead was shot in five days at the 2010 T in the Park festival in Kinross, Scotland, where the cast and crew camped backstage in a specially built marquee that housed 80 tents. Because no scene could be re-shot once the festival ended, the day's footage was edited every night.
- Director David Mackenzie said one reason he cast Luke Treadaway and Natalia Tena as the two leads was their musical experience: Treadaway played in a proto-punk band in his first movie, Brothers of the Head, and Tena fronts her own band, Molotov Jukebox.
