Plot summary
In the rainforest of Xo, in South America, the orphaned coati Nachi spends his days on adventures with Pako, a hyperactive glass frog, and the pair wear out the patience of the other animals. Balam, the black jaguar who has raised him, once praised Nachi for rescuing a monarch butterfly named Xochi, while Amaya, a motherly quetzal, worries about him. Earthquakes shake the land, so the animals gather in council, where Cocopa, an armadillo shaman, speaks of destruction and rebirth. Zaina, a coral snake, argues that Xo is no longer safe and urges everyone to follow her to a new home. Nachi does not trust her and refuses to go, and Cocopa sends him looking for the Tree of Life and the Mouth That Doesn't Speak.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Koati (2021)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Koati was the first animated feature Upstairs Animation produced, made by a primarily Latin American creative team with key contributors from Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador and Argentina. Director Rodrigo Perez-Castro, who had worked on Ferdinand and Rio 2, intended it as a homage to the region and to traditional 2D animation.
- Instead of recording one version and dubbing the other afterwards, the makers produced the film simultaneously in both English and Spanish, so the two language versions were made alongside each other.
